The SEC has been given until September 24, 2023, to produce the requested documents and communications related to its hiring and staffing decisions for director, associate director, and Gensler staffer roles. This investigation comes at a time when the SEC has been particularly active in enforcement actions against crypto firms. In 2023, the agency reached a 10-year high with 46 enforcement actions against cryptocurrency companies, doubling the number from 2021.
