U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.79%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and General Industrial sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.79% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 3.30% or 78.00 points to trade at 2,439.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 3.25% or 54.00 points to end at 1,718.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 3.24% or 21.00 points to 669.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB), which fell 8.52% or 29.70 points to trade at 318.90 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 8.36% or 31.50 points to end at 345.30 and Entain PLC (LON:ENT) was down 4.42% or 30.00 points to 648.80.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 909 to 788 and 595 ended unchanged.

Shares in B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) fell to 52-week lows; falling 8.52% or 29.70 to 318.90.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.46% or 12.24 to $2,684.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.20% or 0.88 to hit $74.20 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.27% or 0.97 to trade at $77.13 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.41% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.25% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 109.00.
